Practical recommendations for considering culture, race, and ethnicity in personality psychology

Personality science is the study of individual. It aims to understand what makes people similar others, different from some, and unique themselves. However, there room for research in personality more thoughtfully consider culture, race, ethnicity order better individual differences people’s patterns thinking, feeling, behaving. High impact journals rarely include such factors into interpretation results, cross-cultural ethnic minority publications are limited within discipline. This article offers a brief, non-exhaustive overview how examined relation personality, showing that: (1) social structures continue be neglected research, (2) we can learn being conducted neighboring areas, (3) valuable work already done psychology. We offer recommendations that emphasize community based participatory methods, combined etic-emic approaches, contextualizing findings improve consideration research.
